Relief to AAP in liquor scam, CBI failed to prove charges against Kejriwal-Sisodia
Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have got a big relief in the alleged excise policy matter of Delhi. Rouse Avenue Court has acquitted both the leaders of the charges. The court said that the investigating agencies failed to present sufficient and concrete evidence to prosecute him. During the hearing, the court made it clear that no concrete evidence of criminal conspiracy was found in the allegations made by the CBI. With the verdict, many other accused named in the case also got relief. Kejriwal and Sisodia appeared in the court in person, while some other accused appeared through video conferencing.
Court raised questions on investigation
During the hearing, the court reviewed the prosecution’s arguments in detail. The court said that the investigating agencies could not present evidence directly linking the leaders to the alleged scam. No one can be prosecuted merely on the basis of allegations. The court also remarked that a fair investigation is essential for a fair trial and the prosecution had failed to prove its case in this case.
The matter was related to the excise policy of 2021-22
This entire matter was related to the new excise policy of Delhi Government for 2021-22. Opposition parties and investigating agencies alleged that this policy led to corruption, bribery and cartelization, which led to loss of government revenue. The investigation was conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The allegation was that the policy was made to benefit a few select liquor traders and bribes were allegedly taken in return. This matter became a big political crisis for the Aam Aadmi Party and many leaders had to go to jail. However, now after the court’s decision, party workers have called it ‘victory of truth’.
