Relief to Hemant Soren from Supreme Court, ED’s criminal action put on hold for now

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren Supreme Court It has brought great relief. The apex court has granted an interim stay (Hemant Soren Supreme Court) on the criminal proceedings initiated against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This action was initiated for alleged disobedience of summons issued in a money laundering case.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered to adjourn the ongoing proceedings on the criminal complaint filed by the ED in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ranchi. This order was given during the hearing on the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Hemant Soren, in which he had challenged the decision of the Jharkhand High Court in which it had refused to quash the action against him.

During the hearing, it was said on behalf of ED that despite summons being sent seven times by the agency, the Chief Minister did not appear (Hemant Soren Supreme Court). Meanwhile, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Soren, argued that he had appeared before the investigating agency thrice and despite this he was arrested. He also said that the agency’s action is unfair and should be rescinded.

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the ED and sought its reply in the matter. The court asked the agency to focus on pending cases and ensure effective outcome. This comment is also considered important in the case.

This entire matter is related to the alleged land scam and money laundering investigation. ED had alleged that Soren did not appear despite being issued summons, after which the agency had filed a criminal complaint in the special court (Hemant Soren Supreme Court). Jharkhand High Court had earlier refused to quash this action, which was challenged in the Supreme Court.

After this interim order of the Supreme Court, criminal action against Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been put on hold for the time being. Now all eyes are on the next hearing in this case and the final decision of the court.
