Relief to passengers on Holi: Railways will run 30 additional special trains

New Delhi, 19 February. In view of the increasing crowd on the occasion of Holi, the festival of colors, Indian Railways has decided to start 30 additional special train services. Of these, eight trains are being run from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus between Sultanpur and Varanasi while 22 services have been extended to Raxaul, Saharsa and Dhanbad. This arrangement has been made with the aim of providing better facilities to the passengers and reducing crowding.

Special services between Mumbai-Sultanpur

Four special trains are being run between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Sultanpur. Train No. 04211 Holi Special will depart from Mumbai at 14:35 hrs on 27.02.2026 and 03.03.2026 and reach Sultanpur at 23:00 hrs the next day. In return, Train No. 04212 will depart from Sultanpur at 04:00 hrs on 26.02.2026 and 02.03.2026 and reach Mumbai at 12:20 hrs the next day.

Mumbai–Varanasi Special Trains

Four special trains are being run for Varanasi. Train No. 04225 will depart from Mumbai at 14:35 hrs on 26.02.2026 and 02.03.2026 and reach Varanasi at 02:05 hrs on the third day. In return, Train No. 04226 will depart from Varanasi at 01:35 hrs on 25.02.2026 and 01.03.2026 and reach Mumbai at 12:20 hrs the next day.

Major stops and coach structure

The stoppages of these trains include major stations like Thane, Kalyan, Nashik Road, Chalisgaon, Pachora, Bhusaval, Khandwa, Itarsi Junction, Rani Kamlapati, Bina, Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi, Orai, Kanpur Central and Lucknow. Varanasi services also have stops at Sultanpur and Jaunpur City. Each train is fitted with 16 AC three-tier economy coaches and 2 generator vans.

Raxaul, Saharsa and Dhanbad services expanded

Mumbai–Raxaul Train No. 05558 has been extended from 12.03.2026 to 02.04.2026 and return train No. 05557 has been extended from 10.03.2026 to 31.03.2026. Mumbai-Saharsa train number 05586 will run from 08.03.2026 to 29.03.2026 and return train number 05585 will run from 06.03.2026 to 27.03.2026. Mumbai–Dhanbad Train No. 03380 has been extended from 12.03.2026 to 26.03.2026 and return journey 03379 has been extended from 10.03.2026 to 24.03.2026.

Booking and appeal to passengers

According to Railways, there has been no change in the timings and stops of these trains. Booking for extended services has started from 20.02.2026, while reservation for AC special trains will open from 22.02.2026. Railways has appealed to the passengers to book tickets on time and avail special services.
