‘Remove Dharmendra Pradhan, bring Sonam Wangchuk’, which gamble is Arvind Kejriwal playing?

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday met activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. He demanded from the central government that Sonam Wangchuk should be made the education minister of the country and the current minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be removed.

Arvind Kejriwal said that there is a need for major changes in the education system of the country. He supported Wangchuk’s demands and said that he would raise these issues in the monsoon session of Parliament. Kejriwal had reached there along with AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj.

Why has Arvind Kejriwal made this move?

Sonam Wangchuk has been working towards alternative education for decades. He is also an educationist and environmental activist. Arvind Kejriwal has demanded that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be removed from his post and Sonam Wangchuk should be made the new Education Minister of the country in his place.

Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that the country’s examination and education system is in a poor state. Papers are being leaked, evaluation systems are being rigged. He says that to improve this bad system, not a traditional leader is needed but a revolutionary education minister who can bring about big changes.

What has Son Wangchuk done for education?

Sonam Wangchuk has long experience in the field of education. He has also been an environmental activist, innovator and educationist. He has established institutions like ‘The Student Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh’ for practical and innovative education in Ladakh and has worked for years at the grassroots level for reforms in education.

Why fast unto death for 20 days?

Sonam Wangchuk has been on a fast unto death at Jantar Mantar for the last 20 days against the alleged paper leak under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party. Sonam Wangchuk has been a non-political person till now, hence the youth is supporting her on a large scale. He is also demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Sonam Wangchuk is on hunger strike since June 20. Hundreds of students, teachers and workers are involved in this movement running under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Sonam Wangchuk was looking very weak and was seen sitting most of the time. People are coming from far and wide in his support.

Which celebrities have participated so far?

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav also participated in this program. He said that the country needs a better education system, that is why he is with this movement. Economist Jean Drèze and farmer leader Rakesh Tikait also supported Sonam Wangchuk. Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to the protesters to convince Wangchuk to end the hunger strike.

The agitators are preparing to march towards Parliament on July 20. Bollywood stars have come in support of Sonam Wangchuk. From Swara Bhaskar to Omi Vaidya have issued statements in his support. People are appealing to Sonam Wangchuk to break her fast.
