Renault Releases New TVC For OpenR Link Multimedia System In New Duster
Renault unveiled the new-generation Renault Duster last month, and we also did a quick walkaround of the all-new Duster. The SUV will officially go on sale in the coming months, but ahead of the launch, Renault has released an official TVC showcasing one feature of the SUV at a time. In this particular video, we get to see the OpenR Link multimedia system offered with the Duster.
The video has been shared by Renault India on its YouTube channel. In the video, we see the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system of the SUV. One good thing we noticed at the time of the unveiling was that the touchscreen is slightly tilted or oriented towards the driver. This ensures that the driver does not have to take their eyes off the road to use the screen.
Unlike many modern cars available in our market, Renault continues to offer physical buttons for controls. The touchscreen can be used to control several features, but the presence of physical buttons makes things more convenient.
The video mainly focuses on the touchscreen infotainment system. It is a crisp-looking unit powered by Snapdragon processors for a smoother experience. The interface of the infotainment screen is different from any Renault model we have seen to date.
Connected car features are common in most modern vehicles. However, the OpenR Link multimedia system seamlessly integrates Google apps and services for a better connected driving experience. It even comes with inbuilt Google Maps, voice control, Google Assistant, and the Play Store, allowing users to download their favourite apps.
As mentioned above, the touchscreen can also be used to control features like the ambient lighting. The SUV offers 48-colour ambient lighting that can be customised according to the drive modes. This can be managed through the infotainment screen.
Renault Duster
The Renault Duster was one of the SUVs that shaped the compact SUV segment in the Indian market. However, due to rising competition, the SUV started feeling dated, and Renault had to discontinue it.
With the new Duster, Renault aims to offer everything that was available earlier—and more. The exterior design still looks butch and rugged. The sleek headlamps, thick front nose, and Duster badging give it an imposing look.
The boxy design of the SUV has been retained. It also gets roof rails, LED tail lamps with connected lighting, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, front seat ventilation, automatic climate control, Level 2 ADAS, a fully digital instrument cluster, and more.
Engine
Coming to the engine and transmission options, Renault will offer three engines, out of which two will be available initially. The first is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. The second is a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 163 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be available with a manual and a 6-speed DCT gearbox. These two options will be introduced first.
Apart from these, Renault will also introduce a strong hybrid version of the Duster. This version will use a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol engine. Renault claims that with this system, up to 80 percent of city drives can be done in EV mode. The strong hybrid version of the Duster generates a combined 160 PS and 172 Nm of torque. It is expected to be launched around the festive season this year.
