Renault’s Sub-4 Meter SUV To Get Petrol, Hybrid And EV Powertrains: Details

Renault showcased the Bridger concept for the first time on March 10, 2026. It previewed a small-yet-impactful B-segment SUV, set to enter production in 2027. When launched, the Bridger-based SUV will be the carmaker’s second sub-four-metre offering, but will come with a unique identity and fresh appeal. Being based on the RGMP Small platform, it will be available with petrol, hybrid and all-electric powertrains.

The Bridger will be underpinned by Renault’s new-age RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform) Small platform. This will be a slightly smaller version of the Duster’s architecture. It is a multi-energy modular platform, known for its versatility. It can support petrol, hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

From what we know, non-hybrid versions will come with 1.2L naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. Additionally, hybrid and EV versions will also be available, the specifics of which remain undisclosed at the moment. We can say that the carmaker will engineer these powertrains to suit the demands and needs of Indian buyers.

The decision to introduce hybrids on the Bridger also aligns with India’s policy landscape. By 2027, more strong hybrid SUVs are expected to be introduced in the market. Having a hybrid offering in the B-segment then will give the carmaker an edge over rivals. Almost all of these powertrains are likely to be heavily localised.

The Bridger concept previews what could possibly be one of the most important launches in the sub-4-metre SUV space, in the next one year. It will play a key role in shaping Renault’s future here. In its India portfolio, the new SUV will be positioned between the Kiger and the Duster. Some may even call it the mini-Duster, as the production form is expected to retain the Duster’s butch stance and some of its sturdy design cues.

This product was designed completely by Renault’s India design team, and will launch here first. The company will manufacture it here at its Chennai facility and export to other markets as well.

Bridger will be a key pillar of Renault’s global competitiveness. It will be launched in India first and then supplied worldwide.”– said CEO Fabrice Cambolive.

The production-spec Bridger will have design as one of its biggest strengths. It will look rugged, boxy and very SUV-like. It will have neatly-drawn body lines, smooth panels, a boxy silhouette, flared wheel arches, tailgate-mounted spare wheel, stylish roof rails, and more.

It will stand under the four-metre mark with its length (excluding the spare wheel). Even so, it is claimed to offer a large boot (likely 400 litres) and a good amount of room inside. The platform plays a key role in ensuring this. Aligning with the SUV-ness of its design, the new Bridger will have a ground clearance of around 200 mm.

Renault hasn’t yet revealed the interior design or feature list of the Bridger. We know that it will be packaged well, and will feel modern with its design. Safety will also be a key focus area. Expect it to come with multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and possibly even ADAS.

We expect Renault to price the Brigder-based SUV aggressively. It is speculated to sit in the Rs 6-10 lakh bracket, with its ex-showroom prices. Such a pricing will likely give it an edge in the highly competitive segment. In the Indian context, the Bridger will have to compete with the likes of Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Maruti Brezza. Higher variants may even have to compete with models like the Jimny as well.

As part of its futuREady strategy, Renault Group is implementing a radical 2-year development cycle for its new vehicles. From design to production in just 24 months. The industry standard is 4-5 years. The aim is to match and compete with the speed and cost-efficiency of Chinese automotive manufacturers. The faster cycle is expected to reduce developmental costs by up to 40%.
