Research Report: Fertility capacity of men is decreasing, due to these reasons the problem is increasing

New Delhi. The fertility of men is decreasing due to obesity and deficiency of Vitamin B6, B12. This is damaging the quality and DNA of sperm. This has been revealed in a study conducted at JN Medical College, Aligarh.

The study included 150 men aged between 18 to 55 years. For two years, the body mass index (BMI), vitamin levels in the blood, sugar profile and sperm analysis (sperm count, motility and structure) of these men were monitored. The study found that vitamin deficiency was found in some men and deformity in the shape of sperms was seen in others. The quality of sperm was poor, which was affecting fertility.

Expert Dr. Mohammad Aslam said that there was a 35 percent decline in sperm motility in the sperm of obese men because hormones were not being produced or released from the brain. Men whose BMI was higher than normal had an average 22–28 percent reduction in sperm count.

Marked distortions in sperm shape (morphology) were observed in the vitamin B6 and B12 deficient group, which reduces the chances of successful fertilization. Semen quality was also found to be weaker than normal in men with diabetes or pre-diabetic profile. Due to excess fat in the body, the endocrine (hormones) system is affected, due to which the testosterone level decreases and sperm production is negatively affected.

Expert Dr. Mohammad Aslam said that due to changing lifestyle, fast food culture, staying awake till late night and increasing stress, reproductive problems are increasing rapidly among the youth. Having hernia problem at a young age can lead to the risk of infertility. At the same time, the problem of infertility in men is increasing due to consumption of drugs and sex enhancing drugs.
