Restrictions on social media use : Karnataka : The use of social media among teenagers has increased. Due to its many adverse effects, many states have decided to restrict its use. Karnataka government has also taken a decision in this regard. of Karnataka ((Karnataka News) Chief Minister Siddaramaiah (Siddaramaiah) presented the state budget for the year 2026-27 on Friday. During the budget, he announced that the government plans to ban social media for children under the age of 16 to curb the negative impact of the growing use of mobile phones on children.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah commented on the misuse of social media while commenting on development works in the budget. Siddaramaiah said excessive use of mobile phones and social media is negatively affecting the mental and physical health of children. Keeping this in mind, the state government is working on a plan to ban social media for children below 16 years of age.

A new innovation zone for AI and robotics
The budget made several big announcements to boost the technology sector. A “Bangalore Robotics and AI Innovation Zone” will be established in Bengaluru in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Indian Space Research Organization and Keonics. It will be a state-of-the-art robotics and artificial intelligence campus that will drive technological innovation.
Aimed at the central government
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah while presenting his 17th Budget also criticized the policies of the Government of India. He said that the central government is not properly following the federal structure mentioned in the constitution, which is causing injustice to the states. He also urged the central government to be more sensitive to the demands of the states.
4.48 lakh crore budget
The Chief Minister said that the total budget of the state for the financial year 2026-27 is Rs 448,004 crore. This budget focuses on technology-driven development, infrastructure construction and environmental sustainability.

He said that Karnataka is playing an important role in national and global trade and the rapid advancement in artificial intelligence is transforming production systems worldwide. Scientific and technological innovations are giving new direction to the development of the state.
