Retirement was withdrawn on the persuasion of Sheikh Hasina; Now the veteran said goodbye to cricket before CT 2025

Tamim Iqbal retire from international cricket: Bangladesh's legendary opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has announced his retirement from international cricket just before the Champions Trophy. Earlier, Tamim Iqbal had emotionally announced his retirement during a press conference in July 2023. He took this decision before the ODI World Cup played in India. However, he withdrew his retirement after being persuaded by the then PM Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has played 387 matches for his country across all formats. Iqbal finished his career with 15,192 runs for Bangladesh. He has the second highest number of runs for Bangladesh after Mushfiqur Rahim. Announcing his retirement on Facebook, Tamim Iqbal wrote, “I have been away from international cricket for a long time. That distance will remain. My chapter in international cricket has ended. I was thinking about this for a long time.”

Iqbal further wrote, “Now that a big event like the Champions Trophy is coming, I do not want to be the center of attention, which can divert the team's attention. Of course, I didn't want this before.” He said, “Captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto honestly asked me to come back to the team. Discussion was also held with the selection committee. I am grateful to him for including me in the team. However, I followed my heart.”

Let us tell you that Iqbal had announced his retirement in July 2023, but later he changed his decision. 35-year-old Iqbal scored 5134 runs in 70 Test matches, apart from this he scored 8357 runs in 243 ODI matches and 1758 runs in 78 T20 matches. His last international match was against New Zealand in September 2023.
