Return of IPS Sadanand Date to Maharashtra, who had a direct fight with terrorist Ajmal Kasab, ACC approved
Mumbai, 23 December. In an important administrative decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) of the Central Government on Monday approved the immediate sending back of senior IPS officer and National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief General Sadanand Vasant Date to his parent cadre in Maharashtra. According to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, this order was issued on December 22. Date is a 1990 batch IPS officer and is known as an experienced and strict administrative officer at both the central and state levels.
During his tenure as NIA chief, the agency’s role was strengthened in several sensitive and national security matters. This decision is also considered very important from political and administrative point of view, because Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are proposed in January. BMC is one of the largest municipalities in the country and maintaining law and order during its elections is a big challenge for the state police. In such a situation, considering the need for experienced and reliable leadership, the name of Sadanand Date is in the forefront for the post of DGP.
Sadanand Date is also known as the brave officer who directly confronted terrorist Ajmal Kasab at ‘Cama and Albless’ hospital during 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He was seriously injured in that attack, but his devotion to duty and courage earned him national recognition. For this reason he is considered an honest, fearless and professional police officer. This decision has been taken at a time when the tenure of current Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla is ending on December 31. In such a situation, the possibility of Date being made the next DGP of the state is considered quite strong.
If Date is appointed as the new DGP of Maharashtra, it will be an important step for the law and order and security situation of the state. It is believed in administrative circles that his appointment will not only boost the morale of the police force but will also help in ensuring fair and strong security arrangements during the upcoming elections.
