Union Minister Kiran Rijiju’s statement on Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently made comments about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in which he said that Rahul’s ideas have been ‘hijacked’ by his activist advisors. Rijiju also said that Rahul speaks in Parliament only what his advisors tell him. Along with this, he raised questions on Rahul Gandhi coming to the House in casual clothes. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that he finds it easier to communicate with individuals who have made a concrete contribution in presenting their views in Parliament.
Importance of etiquette in Parliament
Rijiju said, “Personally, I have no problem with Rahul Gandhi. We meet and interact with each other, because he is the leader of the opposition. However, when you formally speak in the House, you should follow traditions and etiquettes. These are important parts of parliamentary democracy.”
Role of opposition and selection of clothes
The Union Minister also said that Rahul Gandhi’s mind has been influenced by his advisors, and he says only what he is directed to do. He said that when BJP was in opposition, it protested following certain standards, but it did not violate its limits.
Modesty and influence of clothing
Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s casual attire, Rijiju said the opposition leader should behave appropriately, including in his choice of clothing. He said that when a person serves as the Leader of the Opposition, he should follow a special etiquette. Citing an example, the minister said that when veteran communist leader Somnath Chatterjee assumed the role of Lok Sabha Speaker, he took care of his clothes.
“Although I am not against wearing T-shirts, it does not seem appropriate,” Rijiju said. He said that the leader of the opposition should wear such clothes which are commensurate with the dignity of his position.
