Danish Kaneria said that Rishabh Pant could replace Rohit Sharma as Test captain in the future. The former spinner said that Pant keeps his teammates entertained, like MS Dhoni.
Kaneria lauded the wicket-keeper batter after he scored a hundred in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. The southpaw returned to the most extended format after a gap of 18 months. He scored 39 and 109 as India won the contest by 280 runs.
“Rishabh Pant can lead India in Test format. He has the talent,” Danish Kaneria said.
“Shubman Gill is another guy, who is a three-format player and has shown the leadership quality,” he added.
While Rishabh Pant led Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, Shubman Gill was Gujarat Titans’ captain.
Earlier, Aakash Chopra also spoke about Pant’s future as captain.
“It could be Rishabh Pant or Shubman Gill. Pant is a game-changer and is one of the best performers in Test cricket. Once Rohit is done with Test cricket, Pant is one of the candidates to replace him,” he said.
In 34 Tests, Rishabh has scored 2419 runs at an average of 44.79.
