Delhi: Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed the captain of Indian Premier League team Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise confirmed this in a press conference on Monday ahead of the new season starting from March 21. LSG needed a captain after deciding to release KL Rahul ahead of the November 2024 mega auction.

Owner Sanjeev Goenka announced

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka announced that Rishabh Pant will now be the new captain of the team. Goenka also expressed hope that Rishabh will be among the best captains of IPL in the coming years. He said, “We had already fixed the budget of Rs 27 crore for Rishabh Pant. We wanted to include him in our team at any cost. Rishabh is going to be the best player not only of LSG but of the entire IPL. His thinking, connection and passion for the team is of a different level.”

He further said, “I see a born leader in Rishabh Pant. From my point of view, he will probably be the best IPL captain ever. People now say 'Mahi, Rohit' in the list of most successful captains of IPL. Mark my words, after 10-12 years it will be 'Mahi, Rohit and Rishabh Pant'.”

Rishabh Pant also expressed his happiness on becoming the captain of LSG and said, “Whatever things Sanjeev sir has said about me, they mean a lot to me. Whenever I talk to him, I always get positive energy. His words increase my commitment by 100 to 200%. I will work hard to get the trophy for Lucknow Super Giants.”
