Is Rishabh Pant going to leave LSG? Team owner Sanjeev Goenka made a big revelation

Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka recently expressed his views openly about the team and captain Rishabh Pant during an interview. He clarified that there is no truth in the rumors going on about the team and he has full expectations from Pant for better performance in the coming season.

Broken silence on rumors regarding Pant

Goenka rejected the news circulating on social media that Pant may leave the team. He said that such things are spread just to attract attention. According to him, he does not take these claims seriously and often smiles after seeing them.

He also admitted that he is trolled a lot on social media, but he does not give much importance to it. He says that people consider him an easy target, but he is not affected by these things.

Last season’s performance and challenges

The last IPL season was not special for Rishabh. He scored only 269 runs in 14 matches, which was the weakest performance of his career. Even on the captaincy front, the team could not live up to the expectations and remained seventh in the points table.

Goenka attributed the team’s failure to injuries to the players. Especially the deficiency in the fast bowling department affected the team a lot. He said that when the captain does not have enough resources, his performance should also be evaluated on the same basis.

Mega auction and pressure of expectations

Rishabh Pant was bought for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025, making him the most expensive player in the history of the league. Due to such a huge amount, there was additional pressure on him, the effect of which was clearly visible on his game.

Goenka admitted that some mistakes were made in team selection and preparation last year. He said that at that time the team was not in a position to win the title, but this time special attention has been paid to removing these shortcomings. For this season, the team has emphasized on creating balance. Goenka believes that a strong and balanced squad is the key to success.

The team included South African fast bowler Anrich Norkhie for just Rs 2 crore, while Australia’s star wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglis was bought for Rs 8 crore.

Goenka, while answering the questions raised on the price of English, said that it is a wise decision. Giving an example, he said that if the team had spent more on any other player, it would have been difficult to create such a balance.

Team preparation and fitness updates

At present the team seems completely fit and preparations are also going well. Mayank Yadav is in good form, while Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan are also available.

Pant has also joined the team and is taking part in practice sessions, which has increased the team’s confidence.

First match and new beginning

Lucknow Super Giants will start this season with a match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home ground. This match will be played on 1st April.

The team management is hopeful that this time, Lucknow will make a fresh start with better balance and fit players and will learn from past mistakes and perform strongly.
