Rishabh Pant says no to captaincy, Virat Kohli named in Delhi’s squad: Report

Virat Kohli has been named in Delhi’s squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. However, he is likely to miss the game as the veteran was down with neck sprain after returning from Australia. There is a possibility of him joining the team for the practice session but his place in the Playing XI is not confirmed.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant is a part of the unit and will don the jersey for Delhi on January 23. He was offered to lead the team, considering his senior status but the wicket-keeper batter refused to take the captain’s armband. He felt that Ayush Badoni, who has been leading the team, deserves to continue as skipper.

Almost all the national players have returned to red-ball tournament after the Board of Control for Cricket in India made it mandatory to play in domestic cricket. The apex body introduced new rules after the team failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. The national selectors will only pick those players who agree to compete in domestic tournaments. Anyone going against the instructions will not play for India and also missing out on the central contract.

The Indian cricket board will also ban players from the Indian Premier League if they don’t follow the new guidelines.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have confirmed their availability for the Ranji Trophy matches.
