Rishabh Pant shares cryptic post amid doubts over future as Delhi Capitals captain

New Delhi: Rishabh Pant shared a cryptic post on Instagram on Sunday, October 21 following India’s 8-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the 1st Test in Bengaluru. His post comes amid reports that the wicket-keeper batter’s future as captain of his franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) is uncertain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

While Pant is reportedly set to be retained by the franchise, there are questions on whether he will be asked to continue as the team captain. The swashbuckling wicket-keeper batter is likely to be one of DC’s three retentions alongside Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the mega auction.

However, there is no confirmation on whether he will remain the captain. Recently a report in the Times of India suggested that Pant is likely to be asked to continue with the franchise only as a player and that the ball is in his court whether he wants to accept the offer. Amid uncertainty over his captaincy, Pant took to Instagram and wrote – “Sometimes it’s best to just be quiet and let God show people.”

Pant’s recent tweet regarding the IPL 2025 mega auction reportedly left DC puzzled. The wicket-keeper batter put out a late-night tweet earlier this month asking his fans whether he will be sold or not if he decides to head into the auction and how much money will he fetch as a player. As per Cricbuzz, DC management had no idea what Pant meant by his tweet.

Delhi Capitals revamp coaching setup

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals have revamped their entire coaching staff. While Ricky Ponting was sacked earlier this year, former India captain Sourav Ganguly is no longer associated with the men’s team. DC have appointed former India batter Hemang Badani as head coach and Venugopal Rao as the Director of Cricket of the men’s team.

Delhi Capitals are reportedly also set to part ways with assistance coach Pravin Amre, who was responsible for grooming the young domestic talents for the IPL stage at the franchise. Delhi Capitals are yet to win their maiden IPL title and are likely to go all out at the upcoming mega auction to build a title-winning squad nearly from scratch.
