Rishabh Pant to be retained by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025, ending speculation of move to CSK

Rishabh Pant will be retained by the Delhi Capitals for the Indian Premier League 2025, putting to rest speculation about him leaving the franchise to join Chennai Super Kings. According to Cricbuzz, this development comes on the day the left-handed batter scored a brilliant hundred in the second innings of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai.

It also ended rumours of a possible rift between DC captain and the team management.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t announced the new retention rules, but sources have revealed that Pant will be the Capitals’ number one retention choice.

This decision was finalized after Pant met with the co-owner Parth Jindal in Mumbai. His current salary is INR 16 crore and it is likely to go up if the BCCI increases the overall purse of the franchises.

Pant led the side in the 17th season after missing the previous edition due to his car accident. He has been in sensational form since returning to competitive cricket. Pant is sharp behind the stumps and his scoring rate hasn’t slowed across formats.

He hit 13 fours and 4 sixes in his knock of 109 runs at Chepauk. In the IPL 2024, Rishabh accumulated 446 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 155. He is also the leading run-scorer for the Delhi Capitals with 3284 runs.

Apart from Pant, Delhi are also looking at retaining Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs. It all depends on the new set of rules. If the BCCI allows five retentions, the Capitals have finalized their choices. Additionally, if a team is allowed to retain uncapped players, the DC management will go with Abhishek Porel.
