Rishabh Pant trolls THIS big IPL team after being announced as Lucknow Super Giants captain, video goes viral
New Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant reveals his ‘biggest tension’ heading into the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.
Lucknow Super Giants finally unveiled their new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. With previous skipper KL Rahul not being retained by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned LSG, a new skipper was always on the cards. It was a toss-up between West Indian Nicholas Pooran, who was retained for Rs 18 crore but they spent a whopping Rs 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.
LSG owner Goenka official announced Pant as the new captain of the Lucknow-based franchise in Kolkata on Monday. Pant, who previously captained Delhi in IPL 2024, was signed by LSG for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore in the mega auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.
Pant will be the fourth player to lead LSG, following KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran in previous seasons. Rahul captained LSG for the first three seasons, guiding them to the playoffs in the first two campaigns.
During his unveiling as the captain of LSG, Pant was asked what was his ‘biggest tension’ going into the IPL 2025 mega auction. The Indian wicketkeeper hilariously revealed it was ‘Punjab Kings’.
Actually, the Bollywood star Preity Zinta co-owned franchise had the biggest salary purse of Rs 110.5 crore. They were the favourite going into the auction to bring home Pant but thankfully they went all out to buy former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer, buying him for Rs 26.75 crore – making him the second-most expensive player in IPL history.
“My biggest tension in the IPL 2025 mega auction was Punjab,” Pant said after look at Sanjiv Goenka with a huge smile on his face.

This will mark Pant’s fourth season as an IPL captain, having led Delhi Capitals since 2021. He missed the 2023 season due to injuries sustained in a car accident, with David Warner stepping in as captain that year. Under Pant’s leadership, DC topped the table in 2021 but failed to reach the final, and they narrowly missed out on playoffs in 2022 and 2024.
Pant will become LSG’s second full-time captain after Rahul, who was named skipper when the franchise was formed in 2022. In previous seasons, Krunal Pandya led LSG in six matches in 2023 due to Rahul’s injury, and Pooran captained one match last season when Rahul played as an impact substitute.
Meanwhile, with Rahul now part of Delhi Capitals, it remains to be seen if the franchise will opt for a direct captaincy swap, with Axar Patel emerging as a strong contender to lead the Delhi-based team.
