Riyan Parag Shares Major Shoulder Surgery Update
Out of nowhere, recovery began for Riyan Parag following a smooth shoulder operation, ending months of discomfort tied to an issue first felt during his 2024 international start. During IPL 2026, match absences followed – rest wasn’t optional, given the growing pain – yet he reappeared when games turned tight near season’s close. Leadership came calling: second-in-command named for India A’s campaign, though healing timelines blocked any participation
Now comes rehab – the next step after healing. At the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, tests will check readiness. Only once those are done will thoughts turn to games again, whether local matches or global ones
Now, Parag opened up about how it felt going through recovery – posting thoughts on Instagram that showed both the process and what was running through his mind. Tough stretches shaped much of the last twenty-four months, he said, each day bringing its own test.
Now the shoulder had its say. After so many messages, yes – the operation happened, everything turned out fine. Two years back started something nobody saw coming. Some mornings felt strong. Others brought slow steps, quiet pain, hours where just finishing play took every bit of grit. Still, looking back? No switch I’d flip.
“Now comes a different challenge- recovery, rehab and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” he further wrote.
Parag’s Role in IPL 2026
That season saw Parag play a role in getting Rajasthan Royals into the playoffs, ending up third during IPL 2026. Mullanpur hosted the second qualifier where Gujarat Titans beat his team. With the bat, though, results dipped – only 309 runs came from 14 games, strike rate hovering near 157.65. Some innings showed promise early, especially those begun by the player from Assam, yet momentum never lasted long enough. Moments of progress slipped away before turning into big scores.
That injury definitely had a say in how tough things got at the crease. Still, he led like someone who knew exactly what to do – so sharp that BCCI picked him as deputy skipper for the A trip. While he’s out, Ruturaj Gaikwad steps into those shoes, though Tilak Varma wears the armband now.
