A major and painful road accident took place late on Friday (April 11) night in Sunki Ghat area of Koraput district of Odisha, which shocked the entire area. A bus of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) fell into a gorge about 100 feet deep. One person died in this accident, while more than 20 passengers were injured.

According to the information received, this accident happened at around 2 o’clock in the night. The bus was going from Bhawanipatna towards Visakhapatnam. When the bus reached a turn on Sunaki Ghat Road, a truck coming from the front hit it hard. The collision was so strong that the bus driver lost control and the bus fell straight off the road into the ditch. It is being told that there were about 25 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. After the accident, there was an outcry on the spot and an atmosphere of chaos was created all around. The local people immediately showed courage and informed the police and fire brigade and started relief work.

The person who lost his life in this accident has been identified as a 45-year-old resident of Kalahandi district. The condition of two of the injured is said to be serious, while other passengers have also suffered injuries. All the injured were immediately rescued and admitted to Potangi Hospital in Koraput, where their treatment is going on.
The cause of the accident is being investigated
As soon as information about the incident was received, police and fire service teams reached the spot and rescue operations were started rapidly. It was not easy to take out the injured from the bus that had fallen into the ditch, but with hard work the team brought everyone out safely. Koraput SP Rohit Verma said that the accident is being investigated and its exact reasons are being ascertained. At present, there is an atmosphere of panic in the area after this incident.
