Road accidents will be controlled in Indore, Justice Sapre gave strict instructions, laid emphasis on helmet-seat belt campaign

Now a big and strict action plan is being implemented in Indore to reduce the danger of accidents looming on the roads every moment and to save precious lives. In fact, its main objective is to effectively reduce road accidents and spread widespread awareness about traffic rules. Under this action plan, large-scale public awareness campaigns will be conducted to promote mandatory use of helmets and seat belts. Also, challan action against those violating traffic rules will be made more effective. This is not just limited to awareness and fines, but special focus will also be placed on maintenance of city and district roads, repair of potholes and improvement of accident prone black spots.

In fact, these important decisions were approved in the meeting of the District Road Safety Committee held under the chairmanship of Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, Chairman of the Road Safety Committee constituted by the Supreme Court. In the meeting, Justice Sapre emphasized that helmet and seat belt are the simplest and most effective measures for life safety. Despite this, the level of their use in the general population is still not as expected. He clarified that merely issuing challans will not provide a permanent solution to the problem, rather people will have to be made aware and it will have to be transformed into a mass movement. Justice Sapre appealed to all government departments, educational institutions, social organizations and citizens to take the message of road safety to every home and inspire every person to become a “Road Safety Brand Ambassador”. He said that this is a collective responsibility, in which participation of every section of the society is necessary.

Instructions to build high quality roads

Road engineering and quality of roads were also discussed in detail in the meeting. Justice Sapre directed to conduct a survey of potholes on the roads of the district with immediate effect and start the repair work without any delay. He directed the construction agencies to build such high quality roads in future which are less prone to potholes and do not develop accident-prone black spots. It was also informed in the meeting that improvement works have been successfully done on many black spots in the district. These reforms have yielded positive results, with a significant reduction in road accidents and loss of life in some places. Not only this, in some areas success has also been achieved in reducing accidents to zero, which shows the effectiveness of these efforts.

This is the shared responsibility of every person: Justice Sapre

Justice Sapre emphasized that road safety is not only a matter of police, administration or judiciary, but it is a shared responsibility of every person in the society. Emphasizing on the sensitive approach, he said that helping an injured person on the road does not require any special position or authority, but sensitivity and human approach is required. He expressed concern over the dire situation of road accidents in the country, where on an average one person loses his life every three minutes. Collective and sustained efforts are required to change this serious situation.

After cleanliness, aim to be first in road safety also

Indore has created a unique identity for itself in the field of cleanliness in the country. Now the time has come that Indore should become the leading city of the country in the field of road safety. To achieve this ambitious goal, administration, police, social organizations, media and common citizens will have to work together. All the institutions and organizations present in the meeting resolved to make the road safety awareness campaign more effective and turn the observance of traffic rules into a mass movement. This commitment is an important step towards establishing Indore as a city with safe roads.
