Lewandowski just three goals away from joining elite club with Messi and Ronaldo
New Delhi: Robert Lewandowski has been in striking form this season after moving to Barcelona this summer. The Polish star has rediscovered his form under the manager Hansi Flick. So far he has netted 17 goals in 15 games with 14 in La Liga and three more in the UEFA Champions League.
Lewandowski will be inching closer to etching his name in the annals of competition history as Barca is set to take on Crvena Zvezda today in the UEFA Champions League. The Barca striker has scored 97 goals in the top European competition and is just three strikes away from reaching the century mark which would place him among the greatest goalscorers in the competition’s history.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the two players who have surpassed the 100-goal mark in the Champions League. The Portuguese star has scored 140 goals in competition with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus while the Argentine legend has netted 129 goals with Barcelona and PSG.
Lewandowski has impressive numbers in the Champions League with the three teams he has played for. With Borussia Dortmund, he scored 17 goals in 28 matches at Bayern Munich netted 69 goals in 78 appearances, and also won a trophy under Flick. Now at Barca, he has scored 14 goals and will continue adding more considering his red-hot form.
It would not be far-fetched to think that he could reach this magical number against Crvena Zvezda today itself after all he has scored in five consecutive matches for the Catalans including a brace against Young Boys, a hat-trick against Alves, followed by two more goals against Sevilla, one against Bayern Munich and another double against Real Madrid.
The Polish star failed to find the back of the net in the derby against Espanyol but he is still the La Liga top scorer.
Lewandowski eyes third European Golden Shoe
Robert Lewandowski recently won the Player of the Month award for October and is in the pole position in the race for the European Golden Shoe. The Golden Shoe is given to the player with the most goals in Europe multiplied by the league difficulty factor.
Lewandowski is leading the chart with 28 points in the Golden Shoe standings with 14 goals in La Liga and having a 2x multiplier. In second place is Alex Tamm of Kalju FC in Estonia has 27 goals, but with only a 1x multiplier. Viktor Gyökeres, who plays in the Portuguese league is third with 16 goals (24 points) with a 1.5x multiplier.
The fight for the 2024/25 European Golden Shoe award is on, defending champion Harry Kane faces stiff competition from Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski. Mbappe, now at Real Madrid, seeks his first Title.

Harry Kane has scored the second-highest number of goals in the top five leagues, with 11 goals. When factoring in the Bundesliga’s 2x multiplier, he accumulates 22 points placing him sixth in the Golden Shoe standings.
Lewandowski is in the hunt for his third award having won it twice with Bayern Munich. If he manages to win it a third time that would put him third on the all-time list of most Golden Shoes won just one behind Ronaldo and three behind Messi.
