Roger Federer makes debut on Forbes billionaire list

Federer, 44, a former tennis superstar with 20 Grand Slam titles, became a billionaire last year with an estimated $1.1 billion fortune, thanks to incomes throughout his decorated career and his stake in Swiss footwear brand On Running.
According to BloombergFederer earned $130.6 million in prize money over his career, which is just 10% of his wealth. The majority of his fortune comes from investments and high-profile endorsement deals.
In 2019, he acquired about 3% of On Running. The brand is now valued at around $17 billion, making Federer’s stake worth at least $500 million, nearly half of his fortune.
Federer has also built a portfolio of long-term endorsement deals, working with more than a dozen global brands. Several of these partnerships, such as those with Credit Suisse (now UBS), Swiss confectionery company Lindt, German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz, and Swiss luxury watch brand Rolex, have lasted more than a decade.
He reportedly earned around $8 million annually from Rolex, $5 million a year from Mercedes-Benz, and about $20 million in total from Lindt, according to Fortune.
In 2018, Japanese retailer Uniqlo signed him for $300 million over 10 years as one of its global ambassadors.
Born in Switzerland, Federer is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He competed on the ATP Tour for over two decades, going head-to-head with some of the sport’s most formidable opponents.
He claimed an impressive 20 Major titles during his career, holding the record for the most Grand Slam wins for several years.
Forbes’s list evaluates individuals’ wealth based on share prices and exchange rates as of March 1. The world has a record 3,428 billionaires, nearly 400 more than last year. Their combined wealth is the highest ever at $20.1 trillion.
Director James Cameron, known for his blockbuster movies like “Titanic”, “Avatar” and the “Terminator” franchise, also made his debut on the 2026 Forbes list with a net worth of $1.1 billion.
Other notable newcomers include Edwin Chen ($18 billion), founder of artificial intelligence firm Surge AI, Peter Mallouk ($16.1 billion), the president and CEO and majority owner of financial planning firm Creative Planning, singer Beyonce ($1 billion) and hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre ($1 billion).
