Rohit Sharma and Akash Deep among injury scare ahead of Boxing Day Test
Indian fast bowler Akash Deep has shrugged off reports of Rohit Sharma and his injury scare suffered at the net sessions on Sunday. He exclaimed that there was very little to worry about the injuries as these are common in practice sessions in the life of a professional cricketer.
Indian Captain, who scored just 19 runs in three innings so far in the ensuing Border Gavaskar Trophy was hit at the knee during the practice session ahead of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian captain was seen in consultation with the team physio and applying ice to his knees for a long time on Sunday after an hour of intensive batting practice.
He failed to read the elevation off a short pitch delivery and played a cross-batted stroke over the line to incur a thud at the knee. Apart from Rohit, Akash suffered a blow at the elbow while batting in the net sessions but rubbished any injury scare for the upcoming Boxing Day Test.
“Such blows are common when you play cricket. I think this (practice) wicket was for white ball which is why the ball kept low at times. But these blows are common in training. There are no major concerns because of that,” Akash said during a press conference.
The series is poised in equilibrium at the moment with the tally reading 1-1. The latest affair between the two nations resulted in a draw at the Gabba, courtesy of incessant showers for majority of the Test. The fourth Test between the two nations is slated to begin on December 26.
