The relationship between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir was once considered very strong. Rohit had reportedly supported Gambhir to become the head coach of the Indian team during IPL 2024. At that time, good coordination was being expected between the two, but later reports of differences regarding team performance and selection decisions started emerging.
According to reports, some issues started emerging within the team during the defeat in the home series against New Zealand and the tour of Australia. Rohit also took the decision to retire from Test cricket, which surprised the selectors and the team management.

Under the captaincy of Rohit, India has won big tournaments like T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. His experience and performance in ODI cricket is still considered important for the team. However, the selectors want to groom young players with an eye on the 2027 World Cup, which includes names like Yashasvi Jaiswal. At present, no final decision has come regarding the future of Rohit Sharma. After BCCI’s statement, it is clear that many things going on in social media and reports are mere speculations. Rohit’s performance in the upcoming matches will decide how long he remains a part of the Indian ODI team’s plans.
