A very special record of Rohit Sharma has come to light which is related to his long international career. As soon as he played in the ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on 11 January 2026, Rohit Sharma’s international career completed 18 years and 201 days and in the list of longest international career of Indian players, he came at number 6, leaving behind Anil Kumble. With the second ODI of the series on 14 January, his career reached 18 years and 204 days.

Mohinder Amarnath’s international career started with the Chennai Test against Australia (from 24 December 1969) but ended it in ODI and the last match was against West Indies at Wankhede on 30 October 1989.

Incidentally, Mohinder’s father also made a record of long international career and he played only Tests. Made his debut against England in the Test played from 15 December 1933 in Mumbai and the last Test was against Pakistan at Eden Gardens which lasted till 15 December 1952.

18 Years 250 Days, Ashish Nehra (1999-2017):

White ball cricket matches became the lifeline of Ashish’s career. He came from Test and made his debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo on 24 February 1999. He played Test only till 2004 but continued playing ODI and T20. In this too, ODIs were played till March 2011 but the last T20 International was played against New Zealand in Delhi on 1 November 2017.

18 years 214 days, S Venkataraghavan (1965–1983):

He came to international cricket through Test and made his debut against New Zealand in Chennai on 27 February 1965. The last international test was also against Pakistan in Jalandhar on 29 September 1983.

18 years 214 days, Rohit Sharma (2007-2026): He is now equal to Venkataraghavan in career length and will overtake him in the third match of the series.

18 years 191 days, Anil Kumble (1990-2008):

He came from ODI and made his debut against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on 25 April 1990. This career ended in Test and the last Test was against Australia in Delhi till 2 November 2008.

18 years 58 days, Dinesh Karthik (2004-2022) :

He first played ODI and made his debut against England at Lord’s on 5 September 2004. Ended his international career in T20 match and his last match was against Bangladesh in Adelaide on 2 November 2022.
