“Rohit Sharma should attack the rivals and not worry about anything else”: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri has urged India captain Rohit Sharma to attack the rivals in the last two Tests against Australia. Rohit Sharma has scored just 19 runs from three innings at an average of 6.33. The India skipper is batting at the No.6 slot to allow in-form KL Rahul to open the innings along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shastri wanted to see Rohit opening the batting from the second Test but Rahul has been magnificent for the visitors.

“I wanted Rohit to open the innings but then KL Rahul has batted beautifully so far and is a joy to watch. Tte way he is batting in this series, I believe he has struck a purple patch,” Shastri said on the ICC Review.

Shastri feels Rohit can be dangerous at No.6 if he goes hard against the opposite numbers. “I want Rohit to change his batting a bit as he can be dangerous at the no.6 position. He has to be clear in his mind and take the attack to the rivals and not worry about anything else,” he added.

“He shouldn’t be in two minds whether to defend or attack. For me, he should attack. He is experienced enough to pick the length early. He has to play his natural game even if he wants to stay in the middle for a longer duration.”

Rohit has managed 1056 runs in 28 Test innings at an average of 48 with three centuries and six half-centuries at the No.6 slot. The skipper needs to find his form at the MCG.
