Rohit Sharma takes a dig at England following Ashes disaster in Australia
Overview:
After their defeat in Adelaide, England’s losing run in Australia has now stretched to four straight Test matches.
Indian opener Rohit Sharma took a cheeky dig at England after Australia defeated the visiting side in three Tests. The visitors’ campaign unravelled once again, with the hosts clinching the clash at Adelaide by 82 runs, sealing a decisive advantage. The lead by a 3‑0 in the series has confirmed the trophy’s will stay in Australia.
With the English team suffering another debacle, the criticism came thick and fast from all quarters. Rohit Sharma, too, joined the chorus, slipping in a pointed remark about the lopsided contest during an address at a university convocation.
While engaging with the audience, the veteran batter spoke about standout chapters from his time in the game, singling out the Brisbane Test win as a moment that continues to resonate in Indian cricket history.
Rohit Sharma said : “Playing in Australia is the most difficult you can ask England about it.” 😭😂🔥

Rohit Sharma said in a video on the Updatemanda YouTube channel, “We won a Test match at the Gabba in Australia in 2021, where Rishabh Pant played a brilliant innings. It came from a situation where no one believed we could actually win. In that game, almost all of our first-choice players were either injured or unavailable. I also clearly remember that at the time, Australia’s captain Tim Paine said something in a press conference.”
Rohit went on to highlight how challenging it is to win a Test series in Australia, remarking that even England could testify.
“One of those remarks really made us wonder, ‘Why would he say something like that?’ When the match began, we had three debutants in our playing XI. The Gabba is like Australia’s stronghold they had never lost there before. Yet again, from a position where no one expected it, we managed to win the match. And as you know, Test cricket isn’t easy. Playing in Australia is one of the toughest challenges, even England would agree with that. So for us to go there, win that Test, and then clinch the series in Australia was a tremendous accomplishment,” he added.
After their defeat in Adelaide, England’s losing run in Australia has now stretched to four straight Test matches. Their last success on Australian soil came back in 2011, when they secured the Ashes by a 3 to 1 margin under Andrew Strauss. Since then, England have taken part in 18 Tests in Australia, losing 16 of them, with only two matches ending without any result.
With two fixtures still remaining in the current series, Ben Stokes and his team will be eager to restore some dignity and put an end to this long period of losses in Australia. Otherwise, they face the danger of suffering another Ashes whitewash.
