According to a Times of India report, Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) knock-out match. Held in Indore from December 12th to December 10th, this tournament is the biggest stage among the domestic T-20 tournaments.

Now, the Indian team is participating in the three-match daily series against South Africa. The last match of this series will be held on 6th December, after which they can participate in the SMAT knockout match.

Rohit Sharma returns to Mumbai team

Mumbai Cricket Association has revealed that Rohit Sharma and Mustaq Ali have expressed their interest to play for Mumbai in the trophy knock-out match. Currently, the Mumbai team, which is in Elite Group A, is at the first position with 18 points, winning 44 matches in the league stage held in Lucknow. In this situation, the team is almost certain to reach the knockout round.

Along with Rohit, experienced players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shivm Dubey are also in the team, who play a major role in strengthening Mumbai. Rohit’s arrival will be very beneficial for both the morale and technical strength of the team.

BCCI’s domestic cricket regulations

Earlier this year, the BCCI enacted a rule that any Indian players not in the national team or recovering from injury must play domestic cricket. As per this rule, Rohit is also willing to play for Mumbai, which will help in guiding the young players and increasing the strength of the team.

Rohit Sharma is in excellent form now. In the one-day series against South Africa, he has scored ५୭୭ and 𝑒 runs respectively. So, his focus in domestic T-20 cricket is now on the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy knockout match.

Rohit Sharma is the first batsman to score a century for India in T-20 cricket. In the SMAT series of 2017, he scored 101 runs and hit 100 for Mumbai against Gujarat.
