Ronaldo likes post accusing FIFA of favoring Messi and Argentina

The post included a clip from the Spanish TV program “Espejo Publico”, where journalists Pilar Rodrigues Losantos and Ruben Amon criticized the world football governing body.

While the fact that Ronaldo liked the post does not necessarily mean he confirmed or agreed with the content, this quickly sparked online debate. Although the Portuguese superstar unliked the post afterwards, fans have already taken screenshots of his action.

During the program, Losantos labeled FIFA “one of the most corrupted organizations on the planet.” She argued that Argentina would have suffered an early exit if not for support from FIFA, Goal reported.

“Argentina should have been eliminated at least five matches ago,” Losantos stated. “They are only still in the tournament thanks to help from FIFA. So, I’m not afraid of Argentina at all. I’m more afraid of Gianni Infantino. I think we’re not going to play against Argentina, but against the whole of FIFA, who want to hand the World Cup to Lionel Messi!”

Co-host Amon agreed, describing FIFA as a “shameful, mafia-like” organization, while asserting that football still survived despite this leadership.

These statements align with a broader wave of criticism regarding the officiating throughout Argentina’s tournament run.

Daily Mail recently highlighted a series of controversial refereeing decisions that seemed to favor the South American side.

It began in the group stage during Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Algeria, when Messi escaped a booking after appearing to kick Aissa Mandi in the calf.

In the knockout stages, Egypt players were left furious following a 2-3 defeat to Argentina. They heavily protested a disallowed goal and a dismissed VAR penalty appeal.

The quarterfinal against Switzerland saw Argentina benefit from a man advantage after Breel Embolo was sent off for simulation. Following the match, Switzerland coach Murat Yakin and several players, including captain Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji, and Remo Freuler, heavily criticized the refereeing work, claiming it directly changed the match’s outcome.

FIFA has yet to penalize Argentina after their players displayed banners referencing the Falkland Islands following their semifinal victory over England. This lack of action comes despite strict tournament regulations prohibiting political messages on the pitch.

Despite reaching the final, Argentina were completely outclassed by Spain, failing to register a single shot on target in a 0-1 extra-time defeat. If not for an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, the 2022 champions could have suffered a much heavier loss. The defeat ended Argentina’s bid to become the first team to successfully defend a World Cup title since Brazil in 1962.

For Ronaldo, his tournament ended when Portugal was eliminated by eventual champions Spain in a 0-1 Round of 16 defeat.
