Rosalía apologizes for picasso remarks, affirms feminist stance in emotional video
Spanish artist Rosalía has taken to Instagram to express her regret after being criticized for saying that she could separate Pablo Picasso’s artwork from the artist himself. In an emotional TikTok video released on March 14, 2026, the artist, who has won a Grammy award, admits that she was unaware that he had abused women.
“I intend to be sorry about everything that happened when I made the comments about him,” says Rosalía about her remarks regarding the famous artist. “I’m not okay with what I said. I’d have never thought that my comments were going to create so much stress for me.”
Rosalía says that she made the comments during an interview promoting her new film, “The day I die,” in which she talked a lot about Picasso. “I shouldn’t be talking about something that I don’t fully understand,” she reveals. “A lot of people think that Picasso was a wonderful person, and I also thought that he was a wonderful person. What I did not know is that he committed abuse…I want to apologize to anyone I hurt, as a result of not having empathized with their experiences.”
Rosalía accepted responsibility for saying that she had no intention of offending anyone or being disrespectful while promoting her music. “I made a mistake. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will work to improve myself going forward.”
The singer, who is 32, explained further, stating: “I have absolutely nothing but love, respect, & appreciation for feminism. I believe that all aspects of my life (how I live, how I write, how I perform, & how I produce) are feminist.”
The controversy over the issue has rekindled discussions surrounding separating the artist from the artwork, due primarily to Picasso’s alleged treatment of women throughout his life. Reactions from social media users vary, though many have expressed their admiration for Rosalía’s genuine effort to reflect upon & grow from her actions, rather than remain silent.
Rosalía has stated she is grateful for the support she received from her followers, adding that the video she shared was meant primarily for her supporters rather than critics. Her willingness to respond promptly demonstrates her commitment to accountability in response to ongoing conversations regarding historical figures & understanding.
