Rouse Avenue Court sent notice to Sonia Gandhi, this is the matter, hearing will be held on January 6
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi Notice has been issued to (Voter List Case Sonia). This notice has been sent on the revision petition, in which it is claimed that his name was included in the voter list even before obtaining Indian citizenship. The next hearing has been scheduled for January 6, 2026, where the dispute will be debated further.
Revision application filed after FIR demand was rejected
The case progressed when advocate Vikas Tripathi challenged the order of the Magistrate Court which refused to register an FIR against Sonia Gandhi (Voter List Case Sonia).
The lawyer said in the revision that it is a serious constitutional question as to how a person can be included in the voter list before acquiring citizenship. On this basis, the court has sent notice to Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Police and the state government and has also summoned the case report (TCR).
Root of controversy – years old difference between citizenship and voter list
According to the petition, Sonia Gandhi’s name was present in the voter list of 1980, while she officially got Indian citizenship on April 30, 1983. This difference has now become a legal question – if she was not an Indian citizen in 1980, then on what basis was her name recorded in the voter list?
Were any certificates, documents or false declarations allegedly used?
The petitioner has also claimed that his name was removed from the list in 1982 (Voter List Case Sonia), information about whose records has also been sought. The Magistrate Court had rejected this petition in September 2025, after which the matter again reached the court as a challenge. Now the entire dispute is again before the judiciary and the hearing of January 6 is considered to be an important turning point of this case.
