Ruben Amorim to bring a ‘new idea’ to Manchester United and restore its glory
New Delhi: Ruben Amorim has arrived at Manchester United with a promise of transformation, vowing to restore the club’s glory days with a bold ‘new idea’ as he prepares for his debut in the Old Trafford dugout. The Portuguese manager who left Sporting CP to take over at United, comes in after the club’s decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag in October.
The 39-year-old becomes the seventh manager to lead United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Amorim faces the challenge of revitalizing a struggling team that currently sits 13th in the Premier League with hopes of guiding them back to competing for major trophies. He has signed a deal until June 2027.

Amorium landed in Manchester on Monday and will take charge of the dugout against Ipswich Town on November 24 after the international break comes to an end. In a recent interview with United’s official website, Amorim said that he will do everything to put the club in the place that it belongs to and has shown faith in achieving the same.
Amorim begins by saying, “I think you will see an idea. You could like it or not, I don’t know, but you will see an idea.” He emphasized more on creating principles, an identity, and a character similar to the one United had in the past before delving into the formations.

The former Sporting head coach further stressed the importance of players understanding the magnitude of representing Manchester United. He explained, “A lot of people now talk about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff. But when I think as a player or as a team-mate of Manchester United, it is not a system or formation – it’s like the character of the players, the way they see the club.”
Preparations underway
Amorim has already begun familiarizing himself with the new surroundings. Amorim arrived at United’s training ground on Monday for initial meetings and toured Old Trafford on Thursday. While most of the squad is away on international duty, he has met with players like Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, and Leny Yoro. The full squad will regroup next week.

Discussing his philosophy Amorim highlighted that his primary focus is on the team, emphasizing its significance above all. Reflecting on his early days in Manchester, he expressed a sense of immediate connection. He remarked, “It feels unusual yet comforting to have this sense of belonging from day one. I understand the challenges ahead and the magnitude of the task, but I feel at ease, almost like I’m home. That initial comfort is crucial, and I’m genuinely excited to get started.”

The backroom staff is yet to be confirmed but it was announced on Monday that the interim manager Rudd van Nistelrooy would leave. The Dutchman, who returned under Erik ten Hag after a successful playing career at United, bid an emotional farewell on social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
Looking ahead
As Ruben Amorim prepares for his first game in charge, Manchester United fans are eager to witness the new vision he promises to bring to Old Trafford. His tenure marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club, and all eyes will be on how his philosophy translates on the pitch.
