Ruckus in Assembly due to BJP MLA’s statement, Congress called it discriminatory
A statement given during the budget discussion in the Rajasthan Assembly has created a political storm (Rajasthan Assembly Budget Controversy). from enemy seat BJP MLA Bahadur Singh Koli compared the budget of the present government to the “birth of a boy” and the budget of the former Congress government to the “birth of a girl”. After this there was a huge uproar in the House and the opposition lodged a strong objection.
What did the MLA say?
During the discussion on the budget proposal, Koli said, “Ours is the budget of youth, theirs was the budget of old age which came before the elections.” He further said that his government had “produced Chhora” in the first, second and now even the third budget, while the last budget of then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had “produced Chhora”. Opposition MLAs expressed strong displeasure over his statement.
Congress’s sharp counterattack
Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Juli described the statement as “discriminatory and shameful”. He said in the House, “Is this women’s respect? Differentiating between son and daughter reflects your thinking (Rajasthan Assembly Budget Controversy).”
Julie said emotionally that he himself is the father of two daughters and it is not appropriate to make such comparisons in the House. Congress MLAs protested, calling it insulting towards women.
clarification on statement
After the controversy escalated, Bahadur Singh Koli said while talking to the media that there is nothing wrong in his statement. He described it as an expression of Braj language and said that he only meant a “good budget”. However, the debate regarding this comment has intensified in political circles (Rajasthan Assembly Budget Controversy) and it is being linked to gender sensitivity.
This debate that started on the budget in Rajasthan politics has now taken the form of social discussion. In the coming days, this issue may remain the center of discussion both inside and outside the House.
