Running is good for health, but dangerous for the face? Know what skin experts say – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: We all work hard to stay fit and look young. Who doesn’t like running in the fresh morning air? This keeps the weight under control and the heart remains happy. But if you run a lot and feel that your face is looking tired, saggy or older than your age, then perhaps you are a victim of ‘runner’s face’.
This is not a disease, but a term used for runners whose skin starts sagging or their face loses its glow. Let us know why running has adverse effects on your skin and how it can be avoided.
1. Reduction of facial volume
The main purpose of running is to burn calories and fat. But the problem is that when fat is reduced from the body, it not only goes away from the stomach or waist, but also from your cheeks and face. Fat pads on the face make it look young and plump. When this fat decreases rapidly, the cheeks become deflated, bones begin to emerge and wrinkles become clearly visible.
2. Gravity and skin stretch
Experts believe that when we run, the body moves up and down again and again. Doing this for a long time increases the pull of gravity on the delicate skin of the face. Due to this, the elasticity of the skin can become weak, due to which the cheeks start hanging downwards. This is also called ‘juggling effect’.
3. Sunshine is the biggest enemy
Most people like outdoor running in the park or on the road. In such a situation, direct rays of the sun (UV Rays) fall on the face. If you run in the sun for hours without sunscreen, the heat of the sun breaks down collagen. Collagen is the protein that keeps the skin tight. Sunlight causes ‘Photoaging’, which means you start looking old before time.
So why quit running? no way!
Runner’s life doesn’t mean you have to give up staying fit. To overcome this fear, just a few small changes need to be made:
- Never forget sunscreen: Whether it is winter or summer, apply a good sunscreen on your face and neck 15 minutes before going for a run. Wearing a cap or hat is even better.
- Hydration is important: Drink plenty of water so that the skin remains moisturized.
- Pay attention to diet: Eat things containing good fats like walnuts, avocado and Omega-3 so that the natural glow of the face remains.
