Russia likely to extend gasoline export ban until February 2026; diesel curbs may ease
The Russian government is expected to extend its ban on gasoline exports until the end of February 2026Russian daily Kommersant reported on Monday, citing a source familiar with the matter.
According to the report, restrictions on diesel exports are likely to be lifted in early 2026signalling a partial easing of fuel export controls once domestic supply conditions stabilise.
Russia first imposed a ban on gasoline and diesel exports in September 2023 in an effort to curb rising domestic fuel prices and stabilise the country’s energy market. Since then, the restrictions have been extended multiple times as authorities sought to protect local consumers and manage refinery output.
At present, gasoline exports remain completely prohibited for all market participants, while diesel exports are permitted only for refinerieslimiting shipments by traders and intermediaries.
The possible extension of the gasoline ban underscores Moscow’s continued focus on maintaining domestic fuel availability amid ongoing market pressures, while the planned easing of diesel restrictions suggests improving supply dynamics heading into 2026.
