Russia Missile Attack Odessa Port Indians Killed: The flames of the ongoing fierce war between Russia and Ukraine are now engulfing innocent civilians and international maritime trade. Four Indian citizens have been tragically killed in a Russian missile attack on a commercial cargo ship sailing from Odessa port in Ukraine.

After this incident, the Indian government took a tough stand and on Tuesday appointed the Russian ‘Chargé d’Affairs’ Summoned and registered their strong protest against the attack.

Fatal attack occurred in the evening

According to the information received, the attack took place on the evening of July 19 when the ship ‘MV Golden Leo’ Was heading out to sea from Odessa port. The Ministry of External Affairs said that at the time of the incident, there were a total of 17 crew members on board this commercial ship, out of which 5 were Indian citizens.

Four Indians died on the spot in the attack, while another Indian is seriously injured and is currently battling for life in the hospital.

India’s strong objection

The Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the attack, saying that targeting innocent civilian crew members and commercial ships is completely unacceptable. India clarified that such obstruction to freedom of navigation and international trade is a violation of global rules.

The Ministry has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and directed the Indian Mission in Kiev to provide all possible help to the affected.

Ship caught fire due to missiles

According to the report, the Russian military used three KH-59/KH-69 cruise missiles for the attack. A missile directly hit the right side of this Turkish cargo ship sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, causing a massive fire on the ship. It is being told that a total of 10 people have died in this entire attack, including 4 Indians. Relief and rescue teams have rescued 8 other sailors and admitted them to the hospital in Odessa.

Russia called the attack a military action

On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry has claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that its forces targeted ships in Ukrainian ports that were working in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). Russia says they have used anti-ship Onyx missiles and loitering munitions.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed in its statement that the ships attacked near Odessa were reportedly carrying military equipment. In this environment of war, these attacks on commercial ships have become a matter of grave concern for the international community, because it poses a constant threat to the lives of innocent civilians.
