Russia threatened Armenia, said – if it increases closeness with EU, it will have to face suspension
Moscow. The Russia-led economic organization has given a big warning to Armenia. The organization has said that it may expel Armenia. Actually, Armenia now wants to join the European Union (EU). The Russian group is not liking this thing about Armenia. A big conference was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participated in this meeting. All these leaders said that this step of Armenia poses a huge threat to our economic security.
Big report will come in December
The leaders of these four countries have given an order to their officials. Officials will submit a report in December. In this report it will be seen what effect the removal of Armenia will have. These leaders have also asked Armenia to hold a referendum in their country. They want the people of Armenia to choose for themselves whether to join the European Union or remain in the Russian economic bloc. However, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already rejected this demand.
Controversy increased just before the elections
This whole controversy has started just before Armenia’s parliamentary elections. Voting will be held in Armenia on June 7. Nikol Pashinyan has been the Prime Minister since 2018. He is contesting the elections to save his chair. Last year, America ended the decades-old dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Since then, Armenia is continuously moving closer to America and the European Union. The Pashinyan government has also stopped joining the Russian Federation for Military Organization (CSTO). Armenia’s inclination towards the West is angering Russia.
Putin threatened major economic disaster
Russian President Vladimir Putin has given a clear warning to Armenia. He said that no country can be a part of both the organizations simultaneously. According to Putin, if Armenia leaves this group, it will suffer a loss of 14 percent of its GDP. Russia has also started putting pressure on Armenia. Russia has banned the import of brandy, fruits and vegetables from Armenia. Russia has also threatened to stop the supply of cheap gas to Armenia.
