Russia Ukraine Peace Talks Abu Dhabi: A historic peace talks are taking place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to end the bloody conflict between Russia and Ukraine for the last four years. In this meeting being mediated by US President Donald Trump, delegations from Russia, Ukraine and America are present at the same table. But just before the beginning of this peace process, Russia has launched a horrific attack on Ukraine which has made the atmosphere of talks tense.

death rained from the sky

According to the Ukrainian Air Force and media reports, early Saturday, Russia launched massive air strikes targeting Ukraine’s two largest cities, Kiev and Kharkiv. The Russian army simultaneously fired 375 drones and 21 missiles. The main objective of this attack was to break the back of Ukraine, for which its energy resources were targeted. Due to this attack, electricity has been lost in a large part of the capital Kiev. According to initial information, one person has died in this shelling while at least 23 people are seriously injured.

Ukraine’s sharp counterattack

After this attack, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha wrote on the social media site ‘X’ But a strong reaction has been expressed. He said that carrying out such a barbaric attack when the delegation is present in Abu Dhabi for talks proves that Putin’s place is not at the negotiating table but in the dock of the special court. President Zelensky also compared Putin with former Venezuelan President Maduro and said that if America can treat Maduro harshly, then why is Putin still free?

Russia’s conditions and the issue of Donbass

Despite sitting at the peace talks table, there does not seem to be any softening in the Kremlin’s stance. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has made it clear that Russia has not backed down from its old demands to end this war. Russia has maintained its demand for handing over the Donbass region (Donetsk and Luhansk). The Donbass region is extremely important for Ukraine industrially and giving it up would be a major defeat for Ukraine.

Hope for peace or just a show?

President Zelensky has adopted a cautious approach regarding the Abu Dhabi talks, saying that it is too early to think of reaching any major conclusions on the first day. He stressed that first Russia must prove that it is really ready to end the war. For the first time in four years, both the countries have come together on one platform, but Russia’s latest attacks have put a question mark on these peace efforts.
