Russia-Ukraine War: Amid ongoing efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Kyiv could abandon its bid to join the NATO military alliance if Western countries provide Ukraine with security guarantees. Along with this, he also said that America should not pressure them to hand over the territory to Russia.

Zelensky had arrived in Berlin for possible talks with US diplomats on the end of the war. He was expected to meet with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Stance on NATO and security guarantees
Ukraine has abandoned its ambitions to join the NATO military alliance in exchange for Western security guarantees as part of a deal to end the war with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said ahead of talks with US envoys in Berlin.
“These security guarantees are an opportunity to prevent Russia from once again waging war. And this is a compromise on our part,” he said. Zelensky stressed that any security assurances must be legally binding and supported by the US Congress. He also said he expected to hear from his team following a meeting between Ukrainian and US military officials in Stuttgart.

Ukraine’s president said he would meet separately with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and possibly other European leaders late today (Sunday). Zelensky stressed that the US should not pressure Ukraine to cede territory to Russia. US President Donald Trump is asking Russia to end the war soon and is upset with the delay in agreeing to the agreement.
