Russian Drone Strike Romania Galati City: The heat of the fierce war going on between Russia and Ukraine has now officially reached within the borders of NATO member states. On Friday, a Russian drone crashed into a residential apartment in Romania’s Galați city, not only damaging the building but also injuring two civilians. This is the first time since Russia’s major attack on Ukraine that a residential building outside Ukraine has been directly targeted by a drone related to this war.

Meanwhile, a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace and, despite being detected by radar, fell on the roof of an apartment located in the center of Galați city.
After this a massive fire broke out in the building. A 14-year-old boy and a 53-year-old woman were seriously injured in this accident, who were immediately taken to the nearest hospital. Romanian officials have called the incident a serious and irresponsible provocation by Moscow.

However, officials acknowledged that they did not have enough time to safely stop the drone. General Gheorghe Maxim of the Joint Forces Command told a press conference that they had only four minutes to react because of the drone’s speed and trajectory.

Romanian President Nicosor Dan said that the decision not to shoot down the drone in the air was deliberate, to avoid putting the lives of civilians on the ground at risk. There have been several drone incursions into Romanian territory since the beginning of the war, but this is the first case where a civilian building has been directly damaged.
