Ruturaj Gaikwad slams Ranji Trophy umpires after teammate’s controversial dismissal

New Delhi: Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently involved in the second unofficial Test between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) but has been keeping an eye on Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. He expressed his anger on a controversial decision during a Ranji Trophy match between Maharashtra and Services in Pune, by posting a story on Instagram that questioned both the umpire and players involved.

Gaikwad’s Maharashtra teammate Ankit Bawne edged a delivery off spinner Amit Shukla and the ball went to the second slip. The services team appealed for a catch and the on-field umpire, shockingly gave him out.

Gaikwad posted a slow-mo video of the moment on Instagram which clearly shows the ball bouncing before reaching the fielder at slip. “How can this be given out in a live game??? Shame to even appeal this for a catch” Gaikwad asked.

The commentators were also shocked with the decision “I think it fell short at first glance. The ball has lobbed earlier and then it has gone into the hands of the fielders. If the umpires have given it out, the decision will stand. This is not a good sight to watch” one of the commentators was heard saying while the replays were shown.

Gaikwad’s poor form continues

Gaiwkad is currently in Australia for a two-match unofficial Test series. He’s captaining the India A side against Australia A in the second match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

He registered a duck in the first innings and managed to score five runs in the second innings while opening in the first unofficial Test in Mackay which Australia won by 7 wickets. With KL Rahul included in the second match, Gaikwad dropped down to the number four position but was dismissed on four runs.
