S Jaishankar kills three birds with one stone, meetings during Australia tour create stir

Canberra: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and discussed ways to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. In this meeting, Jaishankar greeted Albanese on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on an official visit to Australia from 3 to 7 November.

He wrote on the social media platform 'X', “Delighted to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra today. Best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I appreciate his guidance in deepening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.” He also met New Zealand's Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Winston Peters here.

Regarding his meeting with Peters, Jaishankar said, “Discussed education, technology, agriculture and people-to-people ties. Also exchanged views on Indo-Pacific and global issues.” Jaishankar also interacted with members of the 'Australia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group'.

“I commend his passionate sentiments for stronger political, economic and people-to-people ties with India,” he said in a post. Earlier, Jaishankar also met Liberal Party leader Peter Dutton in Australia. After meeting Dutton, he said, “Exchanged common views on global issues. I appreciate his support for our bilateral relations.”

The External Affairs Minister also met Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the UAE. Jaishankar wrote on 'X', “Today in Canberra I had a good meeting with my friend UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.” Jaishankar will travel to Singapore from Australia, where he will address the 8th Roundtable of the ASEAN-India Think Tank Network. He will also meet leaders of Singapore to review the close partnership between the two countries.
