According to the indictment presented at his trial on Oct. 16, Hwang is accused of filming the victims during sex without their consent on four separate occasions in 2022.

Details about the two women have been kept confidential due to the illegal nature of the sex tapes. One of the victims has refused to settle or negotiate and has called for a severe sentence against Hwang, Yonhap reported.

The scandal started in June 2023 when Hwang filed a complaint against his sister-in-law, accusing her of posting intimate photos of him with other women on Instagram in an attempt to blackmail him. During the investigation, police found evidence of the 32-year-old striker in illegal activities, leading to his arrest.

“The victims must have been under great pain and humiliation, and they have been victimized greatly by the distribution of the videos,” the prosecution said during the final hearing and questioned whether Hwang was “sincerely reflecting on his actions.”

Hwang pleaded guilty to all the charges.

“I send out a sincere apology to all those hurt by my wrongful actions,” Hwang said during his final testimony. “I am also sorry for disappointing the people who have adored and cheered for me with my improper behavior.”

Hwang also pleaded for leniency from the court, expressing his intention to learn from this incident and focus on his football career.

The court has scheduled the sentencing date for Hwang on Dec. 18.

Before joining Nottingham Forest in 2022, Hwang spent three years at French club Bordeaux. In 2024, he signed a one-year contract with Turkish club Alanyaspor.

He was called up to the national team in 2015 and has scored 19 goals in 62 appearances.
