Sabudana Papad Recipe: Sabudana papad is a light, crispy and delicious snack, which is especially prepared and eaten during vrat (fasting). It can be easily prepared at home and can also be stored for a long time. The tradition of making papad in summer is still followed in many homes. Ingredients
- 1 cup sago
- 5 cups water
- rock salt as per taste
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp black pepper powder (optional)
- 1 tsp green chilli paste (optional)
Preparation Process
Step 1: Soaking the Sabudana
Wash sago thoroughly and soak it in water for 3–4 hours. Keep in mind that the sago becomes completely soft.
Step 2: Cooking the Mixture
- Boil 5 cups of water in a deep vessel.
- Add soaked sago.
- Keep stirring continuously on low flame so that lumps do not form.
- When the mixture becomes transparent and thick, add rock salt, cumin and spices to it.
- Cook for 5–7 minutes.
- The mixture should be thick like halwa.
Step 3: Spreading the Papad
- Spread a clean plastic sheet or cloth in a sunny area.
- With the help of a spoon, spread the mixture in small round shapes.
- Keep in mind that the papad should not be too thick.
Step 4: Drying Process
- Dry the papads in strong sunlight for 2–3 days.
- After complete drying the papads will be easily removed from the sheet.
- Store them in an airtight container.
How to Fry Sabudana Papad
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add one papad each.
- Within a few seconds the papad will puff up and become crisp.
- Take out and keep on tissue paper.
If you want, you can fry it in the microwave also without oil.
