Sacha Baron Cohen Talks Mephisto’s Return in MCU After Ironheart Debut
Sacha Baron Cohen revealed where things stand with Mephisto’s MCU future after his devilish Ironheart debut. The actor shared his thoughts while promoting his upcoming rom-com movie.
Sacha Baron Cohen on if Mephisto will return in Marvel Cinematic Universe
Sacha Baron Cohen recently discussed Mephisto’s potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a ScreenRant interview for his upcoming Netflix comedy Ladies First. The actor debuted as the demonic villain in the 2025 Disney+ series Ironheart. He was promoting the film alongside co-star Rosamund Pike when the Marvel question arose.
Cohen was asked whether fans would see Mephisto or Borat grace screens again first. The actor backed his Marvel character without hesitation. “I think Mephisto. I don’t know if Borat will ever return,” he said during the conversation. Cohen originally portrayed Borat Sagdiyev in the 2006 mockumentary and reprised the role in 2020’s sequel.
The character made his long-awaited MCU debut in the Ironheart episode “The Past is in the Past.” Flashbacks showed Anthony Ramos’ Parker Robbins striking a bargain with the entity for a magical cloak. Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams later entered her own pact with Mephisto during the present-day storyline.
Riri’s deal brought her friend Natalie back to life, but came at a visible cost. Glowing veins tied to Mephisto’s influence appeared across Riri’s arms after the agreement. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any continuation of the Ironheart narrative or Cohen’s involvement going forward.
The franchise has moved its focus away from supernatural storylines since Ironheart and Agatha All Along concluded. Upcoming Marvel projects favor street-level action, science fiction, and cosmic-scale narratives instead. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31 as the next major MCU release. Ladies First premieres exclusively on Netflix on Friday, May 22.
Fans eager for more from Cohen’s Mephisto will have to wait for an official Marvel Studios announcement on the character’s future.
