Delhi: The retirement of great batsman Sachin Tendulkar and his farewell match was one of the most emotional moments in cricket history. Tendulkar played his last match against West Indies in 2013 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Sachin was trying to stop tears

When Tendulkar was trying to control tears during his farewell speech, his teammates carried him on their shoulders and took him around the field. After this, he went to the pitch and paid his respects and then wiped his tears and moved towards the dressing room. This was the moment when it was realized that Tendulkar would never be able to play cricket in an Indian jersey again.

Ruled Indian cricket for 24 years

Sachin Tendulkar ruled the hearts of Indian cricket fans for almost 24 years, and his sudden retirement was a big blow to Indian cricket. When Tendulkar announced his retirement, it was certain that his last match would be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Last match played in Mumbai

Tendulkar played the last two Test matches of his career in Kolkata and Mumbai, which were his 199th and 200th Test matches respectively. In Kolkata, he was out after scoring just 10 runs, and now all eyes were on Wankhede Stadium.

Sachin wanted to play for his mother

Tendulkar told that he had requested BCCI to organize his last match at Wankhede Stadium for a special reason. He said, “I wanted my last match to be in Mumbai, because my mother Rajni Tendulkar had never seen me play cricket. At that time her condition was such that she could not go anywhere else except Wankhede.”

Sachin's last match was at Wankhede, where he played a brilliant inning of 74 runs. Although, he could not score a century, but the fans got to see his old magic. When Tendulkar was out, there was silence in the stadium. After this, when he raised his helmet and bat and greeted the fans, the stadium echoed with slogans of “Sachin… Sachin”.
