Sahibzada Farhan addresses ‘The Hundred’ row, says decision not in our hands

Sahibzada Farhan reacted to the reports that Pakistan players wouldn’t be bought by four Indian-owned teams in the auction process of The Hundred, saying they can’t do anything about it. MI London (Reliance), Manchester Super Giants (RPSG Group), Sunrisers Leeds (Sun Group) and Southern Brave (GMR) are linked to the IPL franchises, and all of them would ignore Pakistan players.

“We can’t decide who will pick us or who will not. It is not in our hands. We are ready to play in the league if franchises pick us,” Farhan said ahead of Pakistan’s second Super 8 match against England.

“We are not interested to compete for the people,” he added when asked about Pakistan players not getting chances in leagues with IPL ties.

“Every player wants to play every leagues and The Hundred is one of the best leagues in the world. Let’s hope for the best,” he mentioned.

As many as 67 female and male cricketers from Pakistan have registered for the upcoming edition of The Hundred.

Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Amir and several others have played in the tournament.

No Pakistan player has been a part of SA20 since its inception in 2023, as the franchises are owned by teams linked to the IPL.

In the UAE’s ILT20, the franchises with Indian connections have not signed any players from Pakistan.

England white-ball captain Harry Brook said that it would be a shame if Pakistan cricketers didn’t take part in The Hundred.

“They are amazing players, who are followed by fans. It would be shame to not see them playing in the tournament. Their presence make the competition level even better,” Brook said.

The upcoming season of The Hundred is set to start from July 21 to August 16, while the players’ auction is scheduled on March 11 and 12.
