Sahibzada Farhan receives ICC accolade for standout T20 World Cup display

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February 2026. He is the first Men in Green player to claim the award since Haris Rauf in November 2024. Farhan was the top run-getter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and hit two centuries.

He is the only player in the history of the tournament to post two tons in a single edition of the tournament. The right-handed batter dominated the rival bowlers and kept Pakistan ahead in crucial moments of the games.

In a must-win group stage contest against Namibia, he posted 100 runs off 58 balls. His second century came against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. He added 176 runs with his opening partner, Fakhar Zaman.

Farhan accumulated 383 runs to enter the record books in T20 cricket. “It is an incredible feeling to win the award, especially for performing in the ICC T20 World Cup. Fans from across the globe watched every moment of the tournament, which makes it special,” he said.

He mentioned that his success is because of the positive environment in the dressing room.

“I will remember the tournament, and I want to carry the momentum forward in the future series and the tournaments. I am grateful to my teammates for their support and belief, and without them, it wouldn’t have been possible,” he added.

There were reports of the Pakistan Cricket Board taking action against the players, including Farhan, for the team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup. It was claimed that players were fined after Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

The decision-makers informed the players after the team’s defeat against India, but the fines were put on hold with the condition of making it to the knockout stage. However, it never happened, and the cricketers were sanctioned.

Such reports and claims were rejected by PCB, saying no action was taken against the team, but the board was exploring ways to hold players accountable in the future.
