Sakamoto Days Season 2: Latest updates on renewal status, release date, cast news and plot details

The hype around Sakamoto Days just won’t quit. After that wild first season wrapped up in September 2025, everyone’s been refreshing their feeds for any scrap of news about a second season. The show’s mix of insane action, dad jokes, and heartfelt family vibes turned it into a legit breakout hit on Netflix.

Is Sakamoto Days Season 2 Officially Happening?

Right now, as of December 19, 2025, there’s no official green light from Netflix or TMS Entertainment. The first season ran 22 episodes split into two parts, ending on a huge cliffhanger that left fans screaming for more. That said, the numbers are crazy good – over 24 million views in the first half of 2025 alone, and it held strong in Netflix’s global top 10 for weeks. Manga sales exploded too, hitting 15 million copies in circulation by summer. Shows that pop off like this usually get renewed fast, so most folks are betting on an announcement dropping sometime in early 2026.

Sakamoto Days Season 2 Potential Release Date

No set date yet, obviously. But if they announce soon, the earliest realistic window looks like early 2027 for the first cour, maybe with the second part later that year. Anime production for something this action-heavy takes time – storyboarding, animation, voice work – and TMS has a solid track record with split seasons. Fans are hoping for quicker news, though, since the viewership was massive.

Sakamoto Days Season 2 Expected Cast

The original Japanese voice cast nailed it, and they’ll almost certainly return if we get a Season 2. Standouts include:

  • Tomokazu Sugita voicing Taro Sakamoto – that perfect blend of calm dad energy and “I could kill you with a toothpick” menace.
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shin Asakura, the telepathic kid who’s always one step ahead.
  • Ayane Sakura bringing Lu Shaotang to life – tough, loyal, and hilarious.

The English dub also got solid praise, so expect the same crew there too. No new voices announced, but the core team feels locked in.

Sakamoto Days Season 2 Potential Plot

Season 1 covered up to around Chapter 73-75 of the manga, wrapping the JCC exam arc and dropping major hints about Slur (aka X) and the bigger conspiracy. The finale had Sakamoto sneaking into the assassin school in disguise, Shin enrolling as a student to gather intel, and the kidnappings ramping up the tension.

Next season would jump straight into the JCC Infiltration arc and beyond. More brutal fights, new deadly assassins, deeper dives into backstories, and Slur’s organization getting fleshed out. The comedy stays strong too – nothing beats Sakamoto trying to handle grocery deliveries while dodging assassins. The manga’s got tons of chapters left (over 200 and still going in Weekly Shonen Jump), so there’s plenty to adapt without rushing.
